Akha Ama coffee beans are organically grown in a sustainable way in orchards which are owned, tended and harvested by the Akha people of the village of Maejantai. These mixed orchards include other fruit trees and vegetables, and are located in the mountains of Northern Thailand, in Chiang Rai Province, at an altitude of around 1500 meters (5000 feet) above sea level, ideal for growing Arabica. The coffee plants are true Coffea Arabica varietals “Typica” and “Catuia”, which have an excellent cup quality. After shelling the coffee “cherry”, the beans are washed meticulously, carefully dried in the sun, and then hulled (removing the parchment skin) before they are roasted by experienced coffee roasters. The precision with which the whole process is executed, guarantees the consistent high cup quality that is the hallmark of Akha Ama coffee.
Akha Ama Coffee currently offers three different roasts and one blend of roasts:
Full city roast
This coffee, with a full range of complex flavors and citrus tones in the body, has a smooth finish. The roast is sweet with a nutty aroma and hints of toast.
Full bodied with a balanced acidity and a wide range of fruit flavors. The aroma is enhanced by a hint of spiciness and a smooth finish.
The rich and intense tones are balanced by a mild body, resulting in a bright aroma. This roast has a lower caffeine content.
Italian café blend
This blend of roasts gives an intense, full flavored and well balanced coffee, with hints of dark chocolate and dried fruits. It has a rich finish.
